L’Eccellenza del Patrimonio Digitale Europeo: Il Successo del Progetto EUreka3D_XR by Lucrezia Rinaldi Si è accolto con grande entusiasmo il successo delle campagne TwinIT di Europeana.eu, diventateormai un’iniziativa faro per la valorizzazione dei beni culturali digitali. In questo contesto dicondivisione dell’identità europea, si è celebrato un traguardo straordinario: il progettoEUreka3D_XR è rimasto l’unico finanziato dall’UE a vedere i propri casi di studio selezionati perben due volte come rappresentanti ufficiali di Cipro.Durante la Presidenza belga del Consiglio dell’Unione Europea, si è scelto il caso di studioLambousa per dimostrare l’efficacia della digitalizzazione 3D avanzata nella salvaguardia delpatrimonio culturale. Successivamente, in occasione della Presidenza cipriota del Consiglio dell’UE2026 (CY2026EU), si è selezionato il progetto Saint Neofytos come contributo formale dell’isola,confermando l’eccellenza scientifica del consorzio.A quanto si è appreso, nessun altro progetto legato allo Spazio Europeo dei Dati del PatrimonioCulturale aveva ottenuto due riconoscimenti consecutivi nelle campagne TwinIT. Si è trattato di unrisultato memorabile, che ha confermato il ruolo strategico di tecnologie come la digitalizzazione3D, l’XR e i gemelli digitali nel tramandare la memoria storica. Si sono quindi porti i più viviringraziamenti e le più sentite congratulazioni a tutti i partner istituzionali, ai ricercatori e aiprofessionisti che hanno reso possibile questo straordinario successo scientifico e culturale. European Digital Heritage Excellence: The Success of the EUreka3D_XR Project Great enthusiasm was expressed for the success of Europeana.eu’s TwinIT campaigns, which havenow become a flagship initiative for the enhancement of digital cultural heritage. Within thisframework of shared European identity, a extraordinary milestone was celebrated: theEUreka3D_XR project remained the only EU-funded initiative to have its case studies selectedtwice as the official representatives of Cyprus.During the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Lambousa pilot casestudy was chosen to demonstrate the effectiveness of advanced 3D digitisation in safeguardingcultural heritage. Subsequently, on the occasion of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU2026 (CY2026EU), the Saint Neofytos project was selected as the island’s formal contribution,confirming the scientific excellence of the consortium.As was understood, no other project linked to the European Cultural Heritage Data Space hadobtained two consecutive recognitions in the TwinIT campaigns. It was a memorable result,which confirmed the strategic role of technologies such as 3D digitisation, XR, and digital twins intransmitting historical memory. The warmest thanks and congratulations were therefore extended toall institutional partners, researchers, and professionals who made this extraordinary scientific andcultural success possible.

The “Memory Twin”: Europe’s New Revolution in Digital Cultural Heritage by Carmelita Brunetti Across Europe, a new vision of cultural heritage is emerging — no longer a static archive, but a living, interactive memory. The recent presentation in Brussels of the Digital Twin of the Hermitage of Saint Neophytos — developed within the EU‑funded EUreka3D_XR project — marks a decisive step in this transformation. By integrating AI, semantic knowledge systems, Extended Reality, and digital twin technologies, the initiative introduces the Memory Twin paradigm: an infrastructure that enables cultural sites to “speak” to the present through intelligent and immersive storytelling. During the demonstration, the figure of Saint Neophytos was digitally reconstructed from the centuries‑old frescoes of his hermitage, creating an experience that connects past, present, and future while conveying universal values of peace and coexistence. Selected by the Deputy Ministry of Culture of Cyprus as a flagship initiative for Europeana, the project highlights Cyprus’s strategic role in Europe’s digital cultural landscape.Key contributions came from Digital EU – DG CONNECT, Europeana, PhotoConsortium, MIRALab – University of Geneva, and the broader European network involved. The Memory Twin is more than a technological achievement: it is a cultural vision that promotes a living, accessible, and shared heritage, capable of preserving humanity’s collective memory through the technologies of the future.
